Corrugated boards
One of the key features of corrugated board is that is it relatively light in weight but at the same time quite rigid. It always consists of at least one fluted paper layer and a base or liner paper layer. It must be noted that the corrugated board mainly used for preservation purposes acquires at least three plies. Two sheets of paper known as ‘liners’ are adhered to wave-like fluted paper, which has been subtly altered through heat and pressure. The middle layer is also composed of a wave structure or a thin flute that provides the seriously increased stiffness and strength of the corrugated board. The single and multiple layered corrugated board grades being manufactured by the Avon Containters Pvt Ltd are differentiated, largely in terms of quality, from the other known recycled corrugated board found in the market mainly because of its high paper base weight (grammage).
What types of corrugated boards are available?
Corrugated board refers to the outermost one or two layers of the flutes and, for the multi-ply types of corrugated boards, additional inner layers, often referred to as intermediate plies. Corrugated board is classified as follows according to the number of outer/intermediate plies and flutes:Corrugated board is classified as follows according to the number of outer/intermediate plies and flutes:
Single Face Liner
A little similar to single face and does not have the durability that most corrugated packaging materials have, however it is the cheapest form of packaging and also adds one more layer of protection to products that may already be packed.
Single Wall – 3 Ply Board
Single Wall with three plies of heavy duty cardboard construction offering more rigidity and strength. This scenario is ideal for lighter items that can be easily transferred from one vehicle to another.
Double Wall – 5 Ply Board
5 Ply Board—Breaking when stacked is much more likely on five ply board with a second wall compared to the single wall design. It is mostly used in larger more industrial sized boxes and is one of the stronger types of corrugated. A double wall box developed specifically to a particular company would be suitable for protection products that need much protection, and where the content’s weight has been upgraded.
Triple Wall – 7 Ply Board
7 ply Board — It is strong enough to be used as a wooden substitute. It has conventionally been practiced for transportation of bulk products like metal-products, chemicals, exportation and the like.
As one can discern from the structure of the various types of corrugated Sheet listed above, they most considerably differ in strength, which rises with the number of plies or with the quality of the used paper. The strength of corrugated board is determined by the following three characteristics:The strength of corrugated board is determined by the following three characteristics:
